About

I'm Just Showing My Homework.

My name's Daniel. This is where I keep the work — the lessons I'm figuring out, the games I'm building, the notes, and the parts that broke along the way. Especially the parts that broke. Those are usually the more useful half.

Most of what you'll find here isn't finished, and none of it is polished. That's on purpose. I'd rather hand you something real and rough than something clean that took so long to perfect it never left the drawer. Progress over perfection.

A beacon is a lighthouse. It does two things at the same time — it gathers your attention, and it throws light back out. That's the whole idea of this place. Find somewhere to point your focus, and let what you learn there point back outward, to the people around you. Light received, light given. Same motion, both ways.

It's also a family thing. My wife's work will show up here, and one day the kids'. I'm not going to sand the rough edges off any of it — sanitized work would make a liar out of the whole point. The fumbling is the record, and the record is what might actually help someone.

So take anything here that's useful to you. That's the only ask.

The five beams

MBS — Mind, Body, Spirit

The three things worth tending. Everything on this site is pointed at one of them. Neglect any one for long enough and the other two start to wobble.

Progress over perfection

A rough thing that exists beats a perfect thing that doesn't. Ship it, learn from it, fix it in daylight. Perfection is mostly a hiding place.

1% better every day

Small, boring, and relentless. Not a leap — a lean. Do the next slightly-better thing often enough and the compounding does work you could never do in one push.

Be intentional with your suffering

Hard things are coming whether you invite them or not. So choose the ones worth the ache — the workout, the hard conversation, the problem you don't yet know how to solve — and let them cost you something on purpose.

Seek failure

The fastest way to find the edge of what you know is to walk off it deliberately. I try to fail at something small every day, out loud, where it can teach me. Most of this site is a record of exactly that.
